ICO issues data sharing code of practice

The Information Commissioner Officer (ICO) published the data sharing code of practice. The document is a statutory code, issued by the under section 52 of the Data Protection Act (meaning that the code  has been approved by the Secretary of State laid before Parliament). It is not an authoritative statement of the law but it can be used in evidence in any legal proceedings. The code explains how the UK Data Protection Act applies to the sharing of personal data.

It provides practical advice to all organisations, whether public, private or third sector, that share personal data and covers systematic data sharing arrangements as well as ad hoc or one off requests to share personal data.

The data sharing code of practice is available at https://ico.org.uk…
