British ICO Approves Accreditation of Privacy Seals

The English Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) launched a consultation to identify  framework criteria for prospective privacy seals schemes.

The ICO’s idea is to endorse at least one privacy seal scheme which will constitute a ‘stamp of approval’ highlighting an organization’s commitment to maintaining good privacy standards. The privacy seal scheme endorsed by the ICO will have to be operated by an independent third party in the UK.

The ICO will select a proposal in early 2015 and is aiming to launch the first round of endorsed schemes in 2016.
