$5B Facebook’s settlement with FTC over Cambridge Analytica approved by federal court

On April 23, 2020 a federal court officially approved the agreement reached between Facebook and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) last July. FTC’s investigation began after the events of Cambridge Analytica in 2018. See here for more about this investigation. The reached settlement agreement received some criticism.

Facebook agreed to shift its approach to  privacy, and to pay a $5 billion fine.  See more here. as part of the settlement, Facebook agreed toto conduct a privacy review of every new developed product or service with these reviews submitted to the CEO and a third-party assessor every quarter.  Facebook shall also required to obtain certifications fon purpose and use from apps and third-party developers wishing use Facebook users data.
